HOBONICHI TECHO 2026 | WEEKS | Yuichi Inoue: Amenimo Makezu
The works of calligrapher Yuichi Inoue—known for breaking free from the confines of traditional calligraphy and creating bold, powerful pieces full of life—have been made into a Weeks.
In addition to his iconic ichijisho—works in which he boldly wrote a single large kanji character—Yuichi Inoue also created many pieces using conté crayon. This cover features one such work, his rendition of the poem Be Not Defeated by the Rain (Amenimo Makezu) by poet Kenji Miyazawa.
It’s said that Inoue kept writing even when the conté crayon broke, scratching out mistakes with intense strokes and pushing forward in a single burst of energy. To capture that raw emotion, the cover is made of a rough, canvas-like material with a gritty texture. The cover has been constructed as a light hardcover book with some give to it so it still bends.
This Weeks comes with a bonus: a Hobonichi Pencil Board featuring the full text of Be Not Defeated by the Rain. The front side displays the calligraphy in navy blue on a green background, evoking the imagery of rain and wind. The reverse side is off-white and features the iconic phrase “Be not defeated by the rain, Nor let the wind prove your better.” Enjoy the world of Yuichi Inoue’s calligraphy.
The book uses thin and light yet durable Tomoe River paper. It's characterized by its ability to hold ink well and provide a smooth writing experience. The Weeks book has space for writing in plans or journal entries, and it also has 71 pages of grid paper memo pages in the back (75 pages in the English edition). The back of the book contains bonus pages, including Memories 2026 and 12 Switches to Help You Focus.
